What Is serverHold?
serverHold is a special technical domain status that temporarily suspends a domain’s operation on the internet. This status can only be applied by the domain registry, the organization responsible for managing the top-level domain.
For the t.me domain, this authority belongs to .ME Registry.
Once a domain is placed under the serverHold status:
- the domain becomes unavailable on the internet;
- it cannot be accessed through a web browser;
- all short links associated with the domain stop functioning;
- certain services that depend on the domain become unavailable.
Simply put, when users enter the domain name, it is no longer resolved to its corresponding server address.
Why Is t.me Not Working?
According to WHOIS records, the t.me domain was placed under the serverHold status on July 13, 2026.
The domain was:
- registered on May 20, 2010;
- valid until May 20, 2035;
- registered through GoDaddy.
This indicates that the issue is not related to domain expiration or failure to renew the registration.
Furthermore, the domain’s DNS servers still point to Google’s infrastructure. This suggests that the problem does not originate from DNS configuration, but rather exists at the domain registry level.
Does This Mean Telegram Is Down?
No.
Based on the information currently available, Telegram’s core servers and mobile applications continue to operate normally.
The issue primarily affects:
- channel links (t.me/…);
- group invitation links;
- user profile links;
- message-sharing links;
- web versions of Telegram pages.
For example, if someone sends you a link in the format https://t.me/…, it may not open at the moment. However, messaging through the Telegram application itself continues to function normally.
